Running around Litchfield since 1977.

About Us...

The Litchfield Track Club was born out of the first Litchfield Hills Road Race in 1977. The members, mostly adults smitten with the running boom of the ‘70’s, donned the original black singlets with white lettering and took to the roads for races around Connecticut, and then expanded to New England and beyond. The children of these adults also took up the running boom as soon as they were old enough to escape the running stroller and strike out on their own running adventures.

In 1983, youth runners from the Litchfield Middle and High Schools began to make marks of their own in local school competitions. From 1983 to 1989, the Middle School boys cross country team compiled a record of 83 consecutive wins in dual meet competition, and the girls High School team were Connecticut State Champions in track in 1979, 80, 81 and 83. In addition, the boys Middle School track team were the winners of the 1992 New York City Middle School Championships.

Out of these successes the Litchfield Track Club youth team was born. There was a desire to compete in out of school seasons to see how they matched up with “the rest of the country”.

The USATF Junior Olympic program was established and in 1986 the 10 and Under boys team won the USATF National Cross Country Championships in Irvine, California. In 1988, the girls 13-14 team placed third at the National Cross Country Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Over the following years, the LTC has developed over 30 USATF All-Americans in both cross country and track, and has expanded its membership from not just the Litchfield area to all of Connecticut. Currently, youth as well as adult members reside in approximately 60 of the 169 cities and towns in the state.

Currently, the LTC hosts the Connecticut USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in November at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield and has hosted the USATF Track and Field Championships the last two years at the Litchfield Plumb Hill Track Complex.

The LTC also runs a Summer Cross Country Series at White Memorial every Thursday from July thru August as well as two nights of mile runs at the track.
